Sourcing agent for Malaysia: from supplier search to shipment
Malaysia is a strong source for electronics assembly, rubber and polymer products and halal-certified food and cosmetics, and each of those comes with its own certificate question. We act as your sourcing agent for Malaysia from our office in Ho Chi Minh City: suppliers found and checked, the right certificate verified with the body that issued it, and the goods shipped with the origin paperwork your destination needs.
- Malaysian supplier search
- SSM registry check
- Halal certificate verified
- MITI certificate of origin
Buyers often ask us about electronics assembly, rubber and plastic parts, halal food and cosmetics, and car accessories from Malaysia. Those are examples, not limits — whatever you want to buy from Malaysia, we look for the suppliers that make it.
What makes Malaysian sourcing different is the certificate layer. A halal product involves the factory’s certificate, a separate product certificate and halal evidence for each raw material, and which party holds the product certificate is a choice you make. Regulated electrical equipment needs approval from the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) to be sold in Malaysia. And Malaysia splits its certificates of origin: preferential certificates come from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), non-preferential ones from chambers MITI appoints — except that MITI alone issues certificates for exports to the United States.
We run the work in writing and by video, and where a factory has to be seen or a lot inspected on the spot, we agree with you beforehand whether we travel or appoint an independent inspector in Malaysia. A Malaysian supplier can be put side by side with suppliers in Vietnam, Thailand or elsewhere on the same terms.

How a sourcing request for Malaysia runs
- 01 Brief The product, drawing, formula or BOM, quantity, destination and date — and whether halal certification matters to your buyers.
- 02 Supplier search A shortlist of Malaysian suppliers checked against SSM, with halal or other certificates verified with the issuing body.
- 03 Quotations compared on the same terms The same specification, quantity and Incoterm for every supplier, with your destination’s duty added for each origin.
- 04 Samples Samples or first articles for your approval, tested against the properties written on your drawing or specification.
- 05 Inspection Pre-shipment inspection against the agreed criteria, by us or by an independent inspector in Malaysia, with lot test reports checked.
- 06 Shipping Export documents, an export-permit check for electronics where relevant, the certificate of origin from MITI or an appointed chamber, and handover to your forwarder.
What we handle, and what you decide
A sourcing agent does the legwork; the decisions stay with you.
We handle
- Searching for suppliers that actually make your kind of product, and shortlisting them
- Checking each candidate against its company registry, and any certificate it shows with the body that issued it
- Carrying your specification to the supplier and its questions back to you, in writing
- Collecting quotations on the same specification, quantity and Incoterm
- Moving samples, recording your comments and following production
- Inspection before shipment, export documents and the certificate of origin
- Verifying halal certificates on the issuer’s own portal
You decide
- The specification, and what counts as a defect
- Your target price, quantity and delivery date
- Which supplier gets the order
- Whether a sample is approved
- Whether the goods ship once you have read the inspection report
- The Incoterm, the forwarder and the payment terms
- Whether you or the factory holds the halal product certificate
How our fee is worked out
We do not publish a rate card, because the work behind a sourcing request varies too much for a single number to mean anything. What we can tell you is what the quotation for our work depends on, and we put it in writing before anything starts.
- How we are paid
- Either we act as the trading party and invoice you for the goods, with our margin inside the price, or we act as your buying agent and invoice a service fee while you pay the supplier directly. We agree which model applies before the supplier search begins.
- How much searching the product needs
- A complete drawing or specification with one target country is a different job from a loose description that needs suppliers compared across several countries.
- Samples and visits
- How many sample rounds the product is likely to need, and whether a factory has to be seen in person or checked by an independent inspector.
- Inspection, documents and delivery
- Who inspects and how many lots ship, which certificates and origin documents the destination asks for, the Incoterm you buy on, and whether goods from several suppliers are consolidated into one shipment.
Before you write to us
You do not need all of this to start a conversation — but the more of it you have, the faster we can give you a real answer instead of a range.
- Drawing, formula, BOM or a clear photograph of the product
- Quantity per order and per year
- Destination country and preferred Incoterm
- Whether halal certification matters to your buyers
- Certificates or test reports your market requires
- Your current supplier and price, if you are adding Malaysia as a second source
Frequently asked questions
Do you have an office in Malaysia?
No. We run Malaysian sourcing from our office in Ho Chi Minh City. Suppliers are found, checked and managed in writing and by video; where a factory has to be seen or goods inspected on the spot, we agree with you beforehand whether we travel or appoint an independent inspector in Malaysia.
Can a Malaysian factory make a halal product under my brand?
Yes. The factory’s own halal certificate does not certify your product; each product that carries the halal logo needs its own product certificate, which can be held by the manufacturer or by the brand owner. We verify every certificate on JAKIM’s portal and put the arrangement in writing.
Who issues a Malaysian certificate of origin?
Preferential certificates under trade agreements are issued by MITI. Non-preferential certificates are issued by chambers MITI appoints, except for exports to the United States, where MITI is the only issuer. We request the one your route needs.
Do electronics from Malaysia need an export permit?
Items on Malaysia’s Strategic Items List need a permit under the Strategic Trade Act 2010, and the Act’s catch-all provision can apply to unlisted items in some cases. We check this before the first shipment.
Can you compare a Malaysian supplier with one in Thailand or Vietnam?
Yes. Suppliers in different countries quote the same specification and Incoterm, and we add the duty your destination applies to each origin, so you compare landed cost rather than factory price.
